There are 2 ways to view a website: either by typing the URL with www or without www. Example is as followed:

This has led to problems with Google indexing both versions of the URL, resulting in duplicate content. Also, with 2 versions, your anchor text benefits and PR will be shared over 2 sites (www and non-www). This is known as Canonical Issues.

To check whether your site has canonical issues, simply type the following in Google:

site:http://yourdomainname.com

If the search results returns www and non-www URLs of your site, you need to fix the canonical issues.

How to fix canonical problems?

To fix canonical problems, you need to edit your .htaccess file located in your root server. The following code uses 301 redirect (permanent redirect) one form of the site to the other.

I got a hosting plan with Godaddy and I had some trouble installing WordPress blog on my Godaddy hosting account.

To make sure that you don’t spend as much time as me during installation, here’s the step to install WordPress:

1. Make sure you get a Linux Hosting Plan at Godaddy.

2. Get your domain name at Godaddy, using the same account for hosting.

3. Login to your Account Manager.

4. From the Godaddy Product section, select Web Hosting.

5. Select the hosting account you want to use and click Launch.

6. From the Content menu, select Godaddy Hosting Connection.

7. Click WordPress.

8.Click Install Now.

One error you may encounter is that the PHP version on the hosting plan is not compatible with WordPress.

In this case, you will need to change the PHP version to PHP5 before WordPress can be installed.

To Change Your PHP Version

1. Log in to your Account Manager.

2. From the My Products section, click Web Hosting.

3. Next to the hosting account you want to use, click Launch.

4. From the Content menu, select Programming Languages.

5. Select the PHP version you want to use and then click Continue.
